New album out: A Summer Evening

"A Summer Evening" is an album featuring Gisle Kverndokk's complete chamber music for flute. Kverndokk, who is himself a flautist, has recorded music he composed between 1987 and 2024, together with flautist Arild Andersen and pianist Gudrun Klakegg. The album was recorded at Åsgeir Grong's studio in Skien and is a pure Skien project, as all the musicians have strong ties to this city.

The album begins with the flute duet "A Summer Morning" and ends with "A Summer Evening" for flute and piano. But we also encounter "An Old-Fashioned Christmas Eve" in its flute version, the suite "Memories of my Father," and the newly composed "Nocturne" for two flutes and piano.

Kverndokk's music is beautiful, romantic, and melodic, exploring themes of sorrow, longing, Italian piazzas, church windows, late summer moonlight, and night moods. It is a new and unique contribution to the flute repertoire, with the composer himself performing alongside good musician friends.
